Bloomingdale – The futuristic learning is here!

Bloomingdale International School was founded in 2006 as Bloomingdale Playschool. With the growing need for alternative education practices in the city, Bloomingdale was converted to an International School in 2016. Bloomingdale is an IB world school for PYP and MYP and DP candidate school*.

Offering the Primary and Middle Years Programme, BIS is backed by an international curriculum framework designed for children between the ages of 3 & 16 years. It’s driven by enquiry & concept-based teaching and learning approaches so as to develop lifelong learners & global citizens.

Why our Bloomingdale curriculum is better than regular schools

Our curriculum is designed to nurture thinking, enable learners and inspire a love of learning, incorporating quality practice from research.

We encourage our students to be confident communicators, creative thinkers, inquisitive learners & responsible citizens.

We believe in educating the whole person through an emphasis on intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth.

In our classroom students collaborate, share ideas, present their understanding & continuously reflect on their learning.

How a PYP curriculum works

A PYP CURRICULUM IS BUILT AROUND THE 6 TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEMES:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place & time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

The school designs a curriculum framework for each grade level, picking a central idea for each of the transdisciplinary themes. The central idea is the big idea, the context for student’s inquiry.

WE BELIEVE WE ALL KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT EVERYTHING. HENCE OUR TEACHERS

  • Acknowledge what the learner knows
  • Provocate questions
  • Facilitate new learning through hands on experiences,
  • Lead learners to construct meaning

Student’s learning in all subject areas like English, Math, Science, Social etc, is integrated with the big idea, thereby all learning has context and is not just a mere body of facts.
