Learning and Teaching
Experiential Learning
Expanding students’ minds using hands-on, collaborative and reflective learning experiences which help them to imbibe knowledge in ways that are inventive and memorable.
Interdisciplinary Projects
Engaging students and helping them to develop knowledge, insights, problem solving skills, self-confidence, self-efficacy, and a passion for learning through interdisciplinary instruction.
Integrated Skill Building Programme
Equipping students with skills in academic research and writing including critical reading, note taking, argumentation and reasoning. One of the core subjects, the Extended Essay, is a structured essay comprising 4000 words that gives an opportunity to the learners to communicate their reasoning in a coherent and logical manner appropriate to the chosen subject or issue.
We emphasise the development of non-academic skills as well to prepare the students for life. The Internship program and the career counselling leads students to doors they thought never existed to pursue their passion.
Technology Integration
Classrooms come alive with discussions, debates, explorations and experiments, often woven together with technology. The use of teacher-developed as well as recommended subject websites and online tools have become commonplace in the Bloomingdale’ IBDP.
Inclusion and Pastoral Care
Emphasizing its commitment to student welfare, BIS recognizes the need for pastoral care for DP students. A specialized team, in charge of the Student Support Programme, is available in-house to address these needs. Peer Support Groups and teacher mentors are trained to help students with time management, learning support and strategies, life skills and emotional counselling.
Creativity, Activity, Service
A wide range of co-curricular activities are provided to the students, along with opportunities for service, to help foster holistic, all-round development. It provides opportunities for self-determination, collaboration, accomplishment and enjoyment. Completion of CAS is a requirement for the award of Diploma. It is not formally assessed but students reflect on CAS experiences and through the CAS Journal provide evidence of having achieved the eight learning outcomes of CAS.
