Bloomingdale - The futuristic learning is here!

Bloomingdale International School was founded in 2006 as Bloomingdale Playschool. With the growing need for alternative education practices in the city, Bloomingdale was converted to an International Baccalaureate Authorized School in 2016.

Offering the Primary Years Programme, BIS is backed by an international curriculum framework designed for children between the ages of 3 & 12 years. It’s driven by enquiry & concept-based teaching and learning approaches so as to develop lifelong learners & global citizens.

Why our Bloomingdale curriculum is better than regular schools

Our curriculum is designed to nurture thinking, enable learners and inspire a love of learning, incorporating quality practice from research.

We believe in educating the whole person through an emphasis on intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth.

We encourage our students to be confident communicators, creative thinkers, inquisitive learners & responsible citizens.

In our classroom students collaborate, share ideas, present their understanding & continuously reflect on their learning.

Our curriculum is divided into 3 categories through a student’s academic life

Early Years Program

At our village campus, we offer Playgroup, nursery, and Kindergarten also known as Early Years. Our curriculum is centered around Children inquiry led and play-based learning. Our lush green campus is designed to create a homely atmosphere for kids. With 15 years of experience we can proudly say that we have the leading Playschool campus in Andhra Pradesh.

Primary Years Program

Grades 1 to 5 fall under Primary years Program. It is inquiry-based learning, where children will pose questions with help of our teachers. By facilitating this process of inquiry, children will construct much of their understanding of the natural and human worlds. Through our curriculum, children will be nurtured with attitudes that will enable them to continue the quest of knowledge throughout life.

Middle Years Program

We extend the study across a broad range of subjects manifesting all domains of knowledge, involving the major traditions of learning in languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics and the arts.

How a PYP curriculum works

A PYP curriculum is built around the 6 transdisciplinary themes:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place & time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

The school designs a curriculum framework for each grade level, picking a central idea for each of the transdisciplinary themes. The central idea is the big idea, the context for student’s inquiry.

We believe we all know something about everything. Hence our teachers

  • Acknowledge what the learner knows
  • Provocate questions
  • Facilitate new learning through hands on experiences,
  • Lead learners to construct meaning

Student’s learning in all subject areas like English, Math, Science, Social etc, is integrated with the big idea, thereby all learning has context and is not just a mere body of facts.

Example

Step 1

For this month, we choose a theme - “How we express ourselves”.

Step 2

What are we learning about? - Stories can engage their viewers & communicate meaning.

Step 3

Lines of inquiry

  • construction of an effective story.
  • what stories can convey
  • how stories are created & shared
  • feeling and emotions that stories evoke

Step 4

What happens in our resourceful classrooms?

  • Discussions around books, authors, style & characterization
  • Exposure to various forms of storytelling
  • Guest lectures, virtual media, field visits & theatrics
  • Narrating stories through illustrations, enacting & using technology.

Step 5

The learning outcomes of this journey

  • Expansion of learner’s vocabulary
  • Knowledge of sentence formation
  • Application of parts of speech
  • Equips self to convey & communicate more effectively.
